I have had many enjoyable meals at Rasoi in the past. Probably not again. The manager who greeted us was frankly rude, and the buffet quality and experience has degraded considerably since my last visit. It was doubly embarrassing because I had invited friends hoping to make it an enjoyable occasion. It's a pity.
Horrific service. The food was fine, but the service was so awful that the food could have been the best Indian meal ever and I still would strongly NOT recommend. I brought three colleagues here for dinner - we are in DC for business - after flying in from East Africa. I’m American and they are all Pakistani. We needed halal food for them. Really shocking how awful the woman treated us as customers. I was so embarrassed. It was empty on a Saturday night. No wonder. Spend your hard-earned cash elsewhere. Hard to understand how they are still opened for business.
The best curry in town full stop. Fantastic food really enjoyable
The food was delicious. I was disappointed to see that some of the items that were previously served as staples were not included in the buffet.
It was quiet on Thursday evening. The food was delicious. I had something really spicy but the flavors were really complex. Loved it. Great place to catch up with my best friend.
Best Indian Food I have had since my college days in New York City! I have had Indian food in England, Scottland, and Germany. Rasoi of Washington DC beats them all! The owners were very friendly. The restaurant is small and has a warm cozy atmosphere. Only 10 minutes away from the Kennedy Center for the Perfoming Arts. Rasoi is a good place to eat before attending a performance. Parking is validated and the garage is next door. The clientel when I ate there was mostly local Indian Americans, a sure sign of authentic food. If you like Indian food, this is the place.
Didn't have a chance to sample a lot on the menu but the little we had was suitably spicy and very tasty.
Food on the buffet was fine, nothing special, not spicy at all. Service was good to start but then it took forever to get bill
Best Palak Paneer I've ever had! Was a great experience dining, good service, pretty speedy considering that some dishes take a bit of time to cook.
This was I believe our third visit. The food is outstanding, but it's the owners and their warm and friendly service that really makes this place special. I always feel like I'm at their home for a special occasion vs dinner at a restaurant. We'll be back many, many more times.
Very good value, especially for downtown DC. Best samosas I’ve ever had.
tHIS RESTAURANT CATERS TO BUSLOADS OF TOURISTS ARRIVING FOR THEIR BUFFET LUNCH. There was not another soul in the place when we arrived and no one else came in. Food was mediocre at best. The server was gracious, helpful, and friendly. the bright spot. I booked it because it was close to the Renwick , should have read reviews 1st.
Hello Sarah, I apologize if you were inconvenienced by the big group. My buses are scheduled for 1:15 PM onwards. We do our best to fore-warn before the big group is seated. Thanks for your understanding!
Food was great, owner explained dishes, engaged us in conversation and answered questions.
One of the best Indian meals I’ve had in DC. The owners are extremely friendly!
We went about an a hour before closing so we were the only ones there which meant fast and attentive service. Food was delicious and options were plenty.
Naan was cold and a bit dry. Otherwise, the special dinner was delicious.
I really enjoy Rasoi. I have been here a few times and always like the food and the service. Getting your food can sometimes take a little while, but I would not call the service slow by any means. I really appreciate the separate vegan section of the menu; I love the eggplant and the gobi Manchurian.
We arrived for our reservation and there were no servers present. The workers were setting up a buffet and did not seat us. We seated ourselves and got our own menus. After several minutes, we decided to just eat the buffet and serve ourselves. The food was alright and drinks were fine.
Great experience! Very courteous and attentive service. My family and I were treated with utmost respect. Great food!
My friend and I decided on lunch on this visit. We had the choice of choosing from the menu or the mostly vegetarian buffet. A warm basket of various flavors of naan arrived at our table while we headed to the buffet. I loved the fried cauliflower in a spicy red sauce. My friend's and my plates were filled with favorites like spinach paneer, chickpeas, aloo, and all the condiments. The only downside is we had no room for dessert.
Delicious food, great service, perfect location. Spinach app was awesome. All the dishes were delicious.
Great, warm service and very delicious dinner- definitely recommend it!
Great location, fantastic food and perfect service. I will be back during every trip to D.C.
Rasoi was a wonderful experience for us. We were in DC for a girls' weekend and selected Rasoi from Open Table the same day as our reservation. The food was absolutely delicious and our waitress (whom I can only assume was also an owner) had great recommendations and was very patient with us as we made our menu selections. Very good and I would go again!
That was nice. Two things worth comment. I was dining alone. This can be kind of a bummer, but the hostess was nice - went our of her way to make me feel less alone. Also, I'm strict vegetarian. I don't expect restaurants to cater to a minority of diners, and Indian restaurants are usually a no-go (ghee, paneer...) Fine choices here. Go again? Yeah.
Have dined twice. Once a la carte lunch and once buffet. Excellent food and experience both times.
Rasoi's lunch buffet may be Washington's best kept dining secret. The buffet changes daily and offers a generous array of vegetarian selections along with several meat dishes. Unlike some buffets, each dish is unique in flavor, color & texture with varying levels of heat, and they're all delicious. I love finishing off with the fresh fruit salad after sampling the tasty main courses.
Their kulfi was wonderful! Their service was even better
Delicious and friendly. Totally hit the spot!
Staff was excellent. Food was tasty. Portions were just right
Attentive service. The food was pretty good but not great. The tables are close together so it is a bit noisy.
This place has the best food! You will not go away hungry! Service was great and the ambience was even better! Would highly recommend this to all my friends for any occasion!
It was our first time at Rasoi, which had been recommended by a friend, and we thoroughly enjoyed the great food and service and will definitely go back!
Each meat was over cooked
Good food, nice contact with the owner. The spices are very subtile, and some of them are very soft if you are afraid of eating something too spicy. But if you like spicy food, you'll find it also ! We spent a cool evening, very relaxed.
The vegetable samosas were to my satisfaction. I was delighted to have their butter chicken. I asked for spice level 6/10 (medium) and was totally satisfied with the outcome.
It is very conveniently located and has plenty of seats for a circle of friends. The food was not great unfortunately - my tandoori chicken and naan were kind of dry.
If I were to go there again, I will definitely order something else.
This is a very bad restaurant. Very rude and unruly owner. They charged my 3 year old twins full buffet price each. They hardly took a bite of anything. Very bad restaurant. Bad quality food. You will feel disappointed and sad after your visit to this place. Don’t ever waste your time and money.
We came to Rasoi for my daughter's birthday. As a vegan, it can be difficult to find good dining options, but Rasoi was a great experience. The food was very good, I'd say that on the same level as Rasika, where finding a reservation is usually very difficult. The lady who welcomed me defines customer service. I am thinking she must be the owner or similar. Her smile and warmth sure beat anyplace else's service. I told her about my vegan birthday girl and she said she would be aware of that throughout the dinner. In the end, as there were no vegan desserts, she brought a cute bowl of melon with a candle. Our food was amazing and, if you think you're good on spicy food, do try their vindaloo. Outstanding! A great night was had by all, and we enjoyed the welcoming service and conversation.
Excellent customer service! The host is very personable.
The worst indian restaurant in this world, the people were super rude/rascist. They kept serving water and checking on the Caucasian customers and belittling us. More than that, the food was uncooked and unwanted. It might sound too extreme but this restaurant deserves to be shut down.
